The Power of Words.

Words are powerful. They can be the reason someone smiles, or the reason someone feels small. When we talk about athletes with disabilities, the language we use matters more than we realize. A single careless word can echo for days, shaping how someone sees themselves and how they believe others see them.
How Words Impact People
Think about it: being told, “What’s wrong with you?” or being called “special” doesn’t just sting, it leaves an invisible mark. It can make someone feel like they don’t belong, or that their worth is being measured against someone else’s idea of “normal.”
The Power of Change
But here’s the amazing part, just as words can hurt, they can also heal. When we shift to inclusive, empowering language, like saying, “You’re a strong athlete” instead of, “Good for you!”, we remind people that they are seen for their talent, their effort, and their heart. We tell them: You belong here. You matter.
Building Bridges with Language
Changing our words is simple, but the impact is huge. It’s the difference between building walls and building bridges. When we choose better words, we create a culture of kindness, one where everyone feels proud of who they are and the game they play.
Let’s use words that lift each other up. Let’s make every game a place where everyone belongs. 💛
